Dear, The Oscars.
You suck.
I forgave you for your snubbing of Christopher Nolan and “The Dark Kinght” because I almost understood the implacations of why you did it. I was not, and still am not, happy with it. But, I decided to deal.
I forgave you for snubbing Clint Eastwood and “Gran Torino” and I didn’t even begin to grasp the reasons why. I thought to myself, “here’s a solid film, with a powerful message, created by and starring a Hollywood icon, it’s a sure-fire nom”. I mean, did you watch this film? Did you experience the life and character that Clint Eastwood created? But, I let that slide.
However, I’m not so forgiving of the blatant political agenda you pushed in the snubbing of Mickey Rourke and his vastly superiour lead role in “The Wrestler”. You did it again, as you always do. But this time I feel like it was a double-edged blade: you pushed a liberal political statement on the audience and inflicted a personal wound on the deserved winner, Rourke.
I am very disappointed in you. So much so, that I no longer have a real desire to ever be a part of your dog and pony show.
Regards,
ThaDeej
Yes, yes, and yes.
These were almost the exact words I uttered when Penn undeservedly won Best Actor.
Politics should be left out altogether from these award shows. There is a time and place to bring up politics. Some people just can’t help but bring their political ranting wherever they go.
I don’t care what the Academy says, Rourke was the best actor of 2008, period.
