Why conservatives don’t win elections anymore
It is not that conservatism generally permits less nuance than liberalism (in terms of political messaging, that is probably one of conservatism’s strengths). Rather, the key lies in the second passage that I highlighted. There are a certain segment of conservatives who literally cannot believe that anybody would see the world differently than the way they do. They have not just forgotten how to persuade; they have forgotten about the necessity of persuasion.
Nate Silver asks: Did Talk Radio Kill Conservatism? Give it a read.
Are you kidding me? Please, please tell me you’re joking. Why don’t you flip the word ‘conservatives’ and replace it with ‘liberals’. You’ll have a much more accurate statement then.
I said it once and I’ll say it again. If this election showed me one thing, it’s the utter intolerance the left has for anything that does not perfectly align along their beliefs. Yea, a conservative may roll his/her eyes when you’re spewing your nonsense at him/her. But a liberal will violently scream in your face, punch you, and run around you, ironically yelling “peace for all!”.
It’s to be expected for the left to feel emboldened after Obama’s victory. Parading in the ol’ “I told ya so!” sentiment. But they seem to forget one thing: the only reason Obama won was because he ran as a centrist, period. He wouldn’t have had a chance in hell had he ran as a straight-up liberal.
Ask some progressives. They’re already not very happy with him.
Don’t get too cocky, liberals. This country is very much divided in half and with congressional and gubernatorial elections just two years away, things can change very quickly.
