Don’t just save your money…

sabine:

Find your money.

In Canada, there is about $294 million sitting in 845,000 accounts. Sure, 95 per cent of these are under $500 but that’s still money found.

When an account has been inactive for 10 years, the funds get transferred in trust to the Bank of Canada. There, accounts under $1,000 are held for 40 years and those for more than $1,000 for 100 years.

Some businesses are getting hold of this public (as it is with the Bank of Canada) information and then calling people claiming for a small fee, they can help you find your lost money. You don’t need those — you can find it and get it back for free by searching here.

There could be money there from an account someone opened in your name and forgot about it or for a relative. I found an old account in my Opa’s name.

For you American friends, this website will send you to where you can go find your money by state. This one will search all of America.

Good luck treasure hunters!
