Lessons from the Brown Victory in Massachusetts (via catoinstitutevideo)

In short: Americans prefer smaller government and they generally reject statist policies. Run against big government and the people will reward you. The moment you change, anger will build up, the people will abandon you and they will throw you out. See: Republicans in 2006 and 2008.

Simple stuff, right? Stick to it, Republicans. Take better care of your brand. Make it cool again to be a Republican. We have a naturally attractive message; the Democrats have a rotten one. Use that. Put forth charismatic, down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and policy-driven candidates. Focus on fiscal issues and simmer down on social ones. Take advantage of all this momentum and don’t go all big government on us, again. It’s our path to victory in 2010.
