Earlier today I heard there was a so-called “conservative” protest going on in my Brooklyn neighborhood. I live in a left-wing stronghold so I had to go check it out and see it for myself. There were tons of cops all over the place and it seemed like the protest had just ended. When I asked someone there what it was all about, it turned out to be the anti-gay, anti-Jew, anti-military, anti-America Westboro nutjobs from Kansas. It made sense since I had heard they were protesting at Brooklyn Tech a few days ago.
As soon as I got home, I tweeted about it. And who @replies me? A freakin’ Westboro Baptist Church member, Megan Phelps. This is her lovely response to me. I was making the point that it is insulting to put conservatives and Republicans in the same sentence as Westboro nutjobs. I even heard the words “Republican intoxication” while I was walking through the protest area.
I made the mistake of responding to her tweet, and what was her subsequent response to me? This. That’s right. Shirley Phelps-Roper’s daughter called ME an anti-God, hate-mongerin’ Republican. A member of one of the most despicable hate groups in America called ME a hate monger. Loves it.
Now, can we all agree that the toxic, hateful extremism that fuels these specimens has nothing to do with what being a Republican and/or conservative means? Mmmk, thanks.
