New York City jobless rate hits 9.6% - a 12-yr. high
New York City’s unemployment rate jumped to 9.6% in July, the highest in a dozen years.
It’s the first time the city’s jobless rate is higher than the national level - now 9.4% - since November 2007, before the recession began, the state Labor Department reported Thursday.
The statewide jobless rate fell slightly to 8.6%.
